Red Bull Sound Select Presents: UV Boi (AUS) / Montell2099 / Villette / Kakapo curated by Madcap

On Saturday the 30th of July, Madcap and Red Bull Sound Select head to Auckland’s new Impala nightclub for another massive evening of local and international electronica talent headlined by hyper-networked Brisbane-based producer UV Boi. Presented within a visual-heavy environment, UV Boi will be supported by crucial New Zealand's Montell2099, Kakapo and Villette, all internationally emerging figures within their respective worlds. 

One of the most refreshing producers coming out of Australia’s young electronica scene, UV Boi has performed live alongside Yung Lean, Flosstradamus, Kaytranada, Tkay Maidza, SOPHIE, and Lido, and become a regular face on the festival circuit on the other side of the Tasman. Along the way, he’s collaborated with Ryan Hemsworth and been nominated for the J Award for ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year’, in the process earning the cult audience that took his debut L-UV EP to #3 on the Australian electronic charts. A blend of genres and signifiers, his vibe-heavy 808 jams are the sound of now. "I'm excited to be going to New Zealand for the very first time and share both my old and new music with existing and hopefully new fans,” says UV Boi. 

Alongside UV Boi’s headline performance, the evening will also mark the induction of New Zealand’s Villette into the Red Bull Sound Select roster. Songwriting, singing, rapping, producing and DJing, Villette does it all, in the process gifting us a smoky sound equal parts soul, RnB, and club electronica. In testament to her talent, Villette’s work has been co-signed by Sango, Soulection founder Joe Kay, Hannah Faith, Pigeons & Planes and HillyDilly to name a few. Now connected with Valve Sounds, a new label focused cultivating the growth of innovative RnB, hip-hop and soul artists within the wider Australasian region, she’s just come off an Australian tour with UV Boi and looks forward to reconnecting with him. 

UV Boi and Villette will be joined by Madcap Red Bull Sound Select regulars Kakapo and Montell2099. Kakapo has earnt his stripes performing around New Zealand and Australia, sharing bills with Kutmah, Zacky Force Funk, and Lunice and released music with leftfield labels Cosmic Compositions, Yusoul Records, Forward Thinking Sounds, in the process fine-tuning his sound and approach. Montell2099, on the other hand, has graduated from SoundCloud star to blog darling, winning love from Earmilk and HillyDilly, and blowing the internet away with his stellar remix of LEISURE’s huge single ‘All Over You’.
