The new EP from 9-5ers ‘Day In The Life’ is out and it documents the human experience from dawn till dusk. They say a lot can change in 24 hours but what happens when it doesn’t? Every day can feel the same as if we are on the carousel of life caught in a loop. The irony of balance is that it ebbs and flows. Sometimes you have to experience the lows in order to recognise the highs. In our professional life, we seek to work within a system of cogs, where on any given day you can fall off the conveyer belt. Whilst in our personal life, we seek to create a life of freedom, where on any given day that freedom can be taken.

New album from Sam V out now

‘I MADE THIS WHILE’ encompasses an eclectic mix of genre, style and performance. Sam V not only utilises his prominent vocal prowess and understanding of harmony in tracks such as Jumble.2 and Hang out, but also showcases an introspective & creative element to his songwriting in tracks such as Cheddar Cheese & Ecstasy (one of the lead singles) and Tall Popping Wonderchild. Tracks such as Blue Tent and I made this while! Showcase Sam’s ability as a rapper, as well as his unique sense of self, social awareness and passion. Dreamstate establishes itself as one of the lead singles through its Craig David-esque ornamentation and poetic lyricism.

Ultimately this is a varied and experimental project - particularly for a NZ artist. Yet it will inevitably have a track which resonates with music fans of all genres, ranging from pop, hip hop, r&b, soul, jazz & alternative. This diversity is bound to distinguish and further elevate the unique talent that is, Sam V.

Sam & EDY’s creative collective, Y$O, also tackled the ambitious task of creating visuals for every song on ‘I MADE THIS WHILE’ - and have currently completed 8/11 tracks, with Sam directing the videos and the incredibly talented duo of Paolo Bayogan/ Dan Mcclay editing and shooting them.

About Sam V:

Sam leads Y$O with producer and creative collaborator EDY, and together they’ve begun to slowly distinguish themselves from the pack, completing 2 albums and an EP in 2019, while also doing 8 music videos with more on the way. This has served to elevate their audience and standing in the industry, particularly on streaming platforms such as Spotify and the NZ hot singles charts, where the duo have had a #2 hit in Vibe Wit’Cha and #4 hit in Dreamstate.

Sam’s work has interestingly been likened to the likes of Craig David, Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Brian Mcknight, D’angelo and Brandy.

'AUTUMN' by MUKUKĀ is out now

Between October 2018 and April 2019 MUKUKĀ scribbled on post-it notes, a whiteboard and notepads. From all of this, five songs would become AUTUMN, her latest EP and her contribution to Black Girl Magic and female empowerment. The final product is a soundtrack for times you need to recharge, heal and make peace with the woman in the mirror.

MUKUKĀ transports us to another world with her new single 'Time + Space'

Our artist of the month and quite possibly 2019 is Auckland based MUKUKĀ. Her style is soul and R&B influenced by Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, ASA, Beyonce, Solange and Snoop Dogg.

MUKUKĀ performed at our Madcap Discover night in June and her sound blew our minds.

She released her first EP titled SHOUT IT OUT LOUD in 2015, an ode to her journey from growing up in Luanshya, Zambia and moving to Auckland, New Zealand. The making of which was featured on episode 7 season 5 of TV3's Both Worlds.

Her new single ‘Time + Space’ is out now from her forthcoming EP titled ‘Autumn’ which is set for release on 26 July.
