Watered Down Dreamz is the latest release from Brokeboi Ace, hailing from west Auckland - representing Avondale with his authentic style that sets him apart from the rest. We asked him a few questions about the new track and what he’s got planned for the future.
Describe the track and the inspiration behind it in a few sentences?
One of my boys Eil showed me a beat he made and I listened to it a few times. The sample caught my attention and with the help of BROCKHAMPTON and Tyler The Creator melodies, Watered Down Dreamz was made. The song zeros in on my perspective of my music and my emotions towards making it in the industry. The song is mainly inspired by my overthinking and arguments I've had w myself when I say I wanna be an artist.
What is inspiring you at the moment?
In terms of my persona and building my own character, the homie Sam V has to be the role model I look up to. He's taught me everything that I know about music and I'm still learning from him now. As for my pen game there are a range of artists and genres that I'm inspired by but at the moment J Cole, K Dot, Tyler The Creator, Nas and the whole Poly music scene too are a few to name. I enjoy keeping it local as well, listening to projects by the likes of Melodownz, Rizvan and of course the Y$O crew.
What is coming up for you on the horizon?
I do have projects lined up individually and collectively with Y$O in the bank for the near future. I have another single dropping near the end of the year and that one a banger too so yall keep an eye out for that one! BrokeBoi just getting started and we got the ball rolling, I don't plan on stopping any time soon.
