More about L'amour

Born and raised in West Auckland, Louise Wright a.k.a L’amour, has always had an infatuation with music. From keyboard and singing lessons in school to drum and bass gigs all over the world, her love for music began to grow as she travelled to the other side of the world.

It was in London where she found herself musically, met some amazing DJ’s and producers, collaborated with friends and became fully immersed in the drum and bass scene. Whilst overseas she also realised that radio was the place where she could share all the music and artist’s she had learned about and seen live.

After spending two years in London, she completed an intensive radio course at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney, then came back home to Auckland and started interning at Base FM.

L’amour has been in the music scene for some time now and always brings a good vibe for her live sets. She has a fortnightly show on Base FM ‘More with L’amour’ every second Sunday from 2pm to 4pm.

Catch L’amour at Madcap Rewind #011 on May 18th at Cassette Nine, Auckland.

Quick Q&A with L’amour:

What was the most favourite set you’ve ever done?

Probably the last gig I played which was The Upbeats at Neck of The Woods on 26 April. The crowd was absolutely buzzing from midway through my set to the end when The Upbeats came on. They gave me cheers throughout and a massive clap when I finished, I walked off stage absolutely buzzing with everyone else’s energy and positive vibes

Who’s your favourite artist at the moment (or top few if you cant pick one)?

My favourite artists that I always listen to for good vibes are Spectrasoul, KLLO, DRS and LSB.

What are some things you do to that help you de-stress?

Going for a walk and listening to music, spending time with family and friends, or cleaning helps me de-stress.

Dolphin Friendly deliver the good vibes on their brand new EP Preashology

Marine mammal-loving Christchurch quartet Dolphin Friendly have unveiled their latest collection Preashology, ahead of their epic journey across Aotearoa in celebration of the release this May and June.

Dolphin Friendly, now commonly known as ‘Dolph’ are built on the mutual motivation to promote movements centralised around environmentalism, and anti-conventionalism. The four-piece group have found themselves creating a mixture of sounds, platformed on a hard-pysch, liquid reggae and rock etiquette. One would describe Dolph to be influenced from the likes of rock gods Nirvana and The Doors from their rock n’ roll stage performance and comparable ability to engage a crowd with often debaucherous mannerisms and "loose" behaviour.

Preashology is available on all streaming platforms.

Saturday 4th May - Blue Smoke, Christchurch
Friday 24th May - Totara St, Mount Maunganui
Saturday 25th May - Whammy Bar, Auckland

Name UL - Tape 1

name ul.jpg

Name UL presents his brand new 14 track Mixtape called 'Tape 1'. The debut mixtape from the London Based Kiwi Rapper is a collection of tracks made in his time since moving to London in the past year.

UL uses a multitude of influences from his past which gives a unique feel to this project reminiscent of a young Mac Miller and Tyler the Creator. Collaborating with friends and fellow Wellingtonians HEIST & DENZ1, this mixtape packs a lot of different tones, subjects and styles.

Touching on his relationship to the industry, fame and moving distant from what you know, UL has used this tape to further explore themes present in his album Choice(s) (2016) about the youth drug and alcohol culture, especially how that care free lifestyle can translate into young adulthood.

With a sold out London show after the release of Tape 1, UL is certainly heading towards a bright future with his music and promises even more music from the vault this year.'

‘Tape 1’ is available on all platforms.
