Can you describe the track in a few sentences?

‘If Only You Knew’ is a modern R&B/Pop track that shares a story about two people who are on two different wavelengths, who come together in the end after the other person finally admits their feelings. With the track having a simple beat it really helps the audience to understand the lyrics instead of just hearing the words.

What inspires and motivates you the most?

My passion for music definitely motivates me! And also seeing all these other amazing creatives and musicians pushing out their own content and fire tracks!

What has been the career highlight for you so far?

The highlight of my career so far honestly is just being able to be creative with so many different minds and souls in all kinds of genres! It’s really made me grow as an artist.

Future plans and goals for JARNA?

My future plans and goals would be to travel and get to work with so many different artists/producers and also have my own tour!

Describe the track and the inspiration behind it in a few sentences?

One of my boys Eil showed me a beat he made and I listened to it a few times. The sample caught my attention and with the help of BROCKHAMPTON and Tyler The Creator melodies, Watered Down Dreamz was made. The song zeros in on my perspective of my music and my emotions towards making it in the industry. The song is mainly inspired by my overthinking and arguments I've had w myself when I say I wanna be an artist.

What is inspiring you at the moment?

In terms of my persona and building my own character, the homie Sam V has to be the role model I look up to. He's taught me everything that I know about music and I'm still learning from him now. As for my pen game there are a range of artists and genres that I'm inspired by but at the moment J Cole, K Dot, Tyler The Creator, Nas and the whole Poly music scene too are a few to name. I enjoy keeping it local as well, listening to projects by the likes of Melodownz, Rizvan and of course the Y$O crew.

What is coming up for you on the horizon?

I do have projects lined up individually and collectively with Y$O in the bank for the near future. I have another single dropping near the end of the year and that one a banger too so yall keep an eye out for that one! BrokeBoi just getting started and we got the ball rolling, I don't plan on stopping any time soon.

Introducing Aunty Rae's new single 'Wedding Vows'

HtSbkqYQ copy.jpeg

Aunty Rae is the shamelessly emotional alter ego of Tāmaki Makaurau singer, songwriter, Holly Afoa. Embracing sultry dialogue of affliction, romance, and femme empowerment, Aunty Rae commits herself to the timeless qualities of R&B fusing together old school and alt-hip-hop elements. Following her first-ever and last ever Holly Afoa EP titled Sister, Aunty Rae dives further into troubled situations through soulful melodies, familiar narratives, and spoken word.

On ‘Wedding Vows’, Aunty Rae picks at the incompetence of millennial romance. Contrary to what the title suggests, this is no love song, rather a honeyed threat to meet in the middle.

I’m not waiting for you” Aunty Rae floats over hard-hitting sub bass and zen-inducing pads before presenting the grim outcome if things don’t go her way “I’ll bury the bones right here” (don’t worry, it’s a metaphor). Boasting layered harmonies, sweetly placed call and response, and a sensually confronting spoken word verse, Aunty Rae expresses her romantic frustrations.

‘Wedding Vows’ was mixed and produced by Auckland-based beat-maker Akshay Raju.
